April Fool's Day - The Curious Case of Sidd Finch

On April 1st, 1985, Sports Illustrated played one of the best sports related April Fool's Day jokes ever. Famed journalist, George Plimpton created a fictional baseball phenom named Sidd Finch. Finch was a pitcher with a 168 MPH fastball, French horn player, practiced yoga and was a recluse. At the time of his tryout with the New York Mets, Finch was trying to decide on a life in baseball or music.

For a behind the scenes look at how the hoax went down, read John Strubel's Backstory: Sidd Finch at 25.
